KOF Allstars cemented SNK in the Mobile Games Market

KOF World

KOF World

Things have been good for SNK lately for many reasons, including their mobile game: KOF Allstars.

Samurai Showdown was a bestseller, even if its competitive life was short. The King of Fighters, despite all the controversy regarding dated graphics, was still a success. It feels like SNK realized, finally, how much their franchises are loved.

SNK discovered the mobile market

Metal Slug, a mediocre port to mobile devices

The company has been trying to get into the mobile market for a long time. Much like Capcom, SEGA, and even Square, they released mobile versions of their old games.

Playing retro games on your smartphone is nothing new, and it’s certainly not very appealing to most people. SNK’s release of Metal Slug 2 for mobile was atrocious.

The game might emulate decently, but there’s only so much that emulation can do. Trying to play a game designed for arcades becomes a nightmare when all you have to work with is a touchscreen.

It took a while, but eventually, we got The King of Fighters World. The game is as successful as a mediocre game of such a powerful franchise can be. Thankfully, it seems SNK was just testing the waters.

A couple of years later, with much better graphics and a refined battle system, King of Fighters Allstars appeared. It was an immediate success.

The game has a lot to make itself relevant. The graphics are great, the gameplay is designed for mobile devices and is very fun, but they also pulled out a recent trick in the Fight Game Genre: Guest Characters. The King of Fighters Allstars borrowed characters from other SNK franchises, but they didn’t stop there. SNK went as far as adding characters like Jin Kazama from Tekken and even the John Cena from WWE.

Not only they managed to make a fun game, but they also make us want to keep up with it to see what else they’re going to throw in there. After John Cena, anything is possible. Maybe we’ll get Characters from old movies or series.

Can you even imagine what they’re going to come up with next? We’re betting SNK will keep converting franchises to Mobile Games and bringing crazier characters to KOF Allstar! And there’s even more crazy stuff to come with their new card oriented game, SNK Allstars.
