Marvel’s Contest of Champions Spider-Ham (2-star) is available to all players for free if you download the game between December 7-31, 2020!
Who is Spider-Ham?
“Peter Porker picked a profession of punishing punks. How so, you ask? Well, Peter was once an everyday spider who (in a horrible accident involving a scientist and an atomic hair dryer) was bit by a radioactive pig! Peter was transformed, retaining all of his spider powers but taking on the form of an anthropomorphic Pig. With these new powers, he adopted the surname of the scientist who bit him, May Porker, and became Spider-Ham! Now he’s set out to send the bad guys of The Battlerealm crying all the way home.”

A bit of an odd take on the classic Spider-Man origin story, with a spider turning into a pig with spider-like abilities, rather than a human gaining said abilities. Kind of reminds you of a certain animated hog from The Simpsons doesn’t it?
Spider-pig…spider-pig..does whatever a spider-pig does. Can he swing from a web? No, he can’t. He’s a pig. Gets me every time.
In order to attack, Spider-Ham places his “Patent Pending Porker Poppers” (try saying that 3 times fast) on the opponent when he strikes them with Medium Attacks. The Porker Poppers are an improved version of Power Sting, an ability exclusive to Yellowjacket. These Poppers deal additional damage to the opponent when they use a Special Attack against Spider-Ham. As long as the opponent has at least 1 Bar of Power, Spider-Ham will also build up Spider-Nonsense over time, the higher the Nonsense, the higher chance he has to re-apply new Poppers whenever they’re triggered.
In Marvel’s Contest of Champions, Spider-Ham has a couple of different strengths:
Strong against Champions who launch repeated Special Attacks in quick succession. Champions like Sasquatch and Doctor Doom are able to activate lots of Special Attacks back-to-back leaving them vulnerable to Spider-Ham’s Porker Poppers.
He is also strong against Power Gain Champions, since Spider-Ham’s “Spider-Nonsense” relies on the Power of opponents, the more power they have, the longer he is able to fight at high levels of Spider-Nonsense.
Unfortunately, all Champions have some weaknesses and that means Spider-Ham is weak to:
Champions with powerful Basic Attacks, since Champions that are able to get through a fight using powerful basic attacks can avoid a lot of Spider-Ham’s threats.
He also uses Evade on both Attack and Defense, meaning if an opponent has True Accuracy or other anti-evade effects, they can simply ignore or disable his Evade ability rendering it completely useless.
Well, there you have it. Your friendly neighborhood spotlight on Marvel’s Contest of Champions Spider-Ham! He’s bound to be a true adversary to certain Champions and you can grab a free 2-star unit just by downloading the game anytime between now and December 31, 2020! Personally, I think the coolest part about Spider-Ham is that John Mulaney is returning to the role of Spider-Ham from his first run in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse!
