InnerSloth’s mobile game Among Us is one of the most popular games of the moment. In 2020 it was downloaded more than 217 million times and won Best Mobile Game at The Game Awards. Given the success of Among Us, it is not surprising that other video game developers would try to replicate it. Which is why a leaked video showing a new PUBG Mobile game mode based on Among Us is not unexpected.
For those not familiar with Among Us, the game is played as follows. The game divides players into two roles: impostor and crewmate. The goal of the impostor is to kill the other crewmates without being caught. The goal of a crewmate is to perform certain tasks that are specific to the map. Crewmates win the game by completing tasks or voting out the impostor. Games consist of four to ten players.
On January 9, 2021, a YouTuber named LuckyMan uploaded a video of him playing the Among Us-like game mode in the Chinese version of PUBG Mobile. The game mode takes place on a new map consisting of five rooms. A series of hallways connect the rooms. An additional hallway connects the two center rooms. The layout is relatively simple, compared to the Among Us maps.

The gameplay resembles that of Among Us. Ten players take on roles similar to the crewmates and impostors. In the video, LuckyMan is the impostor. Crewmates are tasked with completing certain objectives. These objectives involve defusing a bomb, reconnecting wires, and fixing pipes. Objectives appear on the map as a yellow circle with an exclamation mark. Based on the footage, the impostor is also able to complete the objectives. Just like in Among Us, the impostor can use vents to travel between rooms. The impostor possesses a frying pan that can be used to kill the crewmates. Crewmates can report dead players and call an emergency meeting to vote out a player. As with Among Us, crewmates win the game by completing all the objectives or voting out the imposter. The imposter wins by killing all the crewmates.
The inclusion of an Among Us-like game mode in PUBG Mobile is an interesting concept. It is questionable when this game mode will appear in the global version of PUBG Mobile. Typically, the Chinese version of PUBG Mobile receives updates a month or two before the global version. We will just have to wait and see.
