It’s no coincidence that Rise of Kingdoms is so popular. The developers have been updating the game on and off for years. One of the biggest updates in recent years has been the heroes wearing items. This update focuses on a question that confuses especially new players: How to Use Crystal Keys in Rise of Kingdoms?
As you continue playing Rise of Kingdoms, one of the strategy games with the deepest and most entertaining game mechanics, you’ll find that the game gets deeper and deeper. In the first few hours you may think that you understand the game completely, but don’t let that fool you. Because after spending about four weeks in the game, you’ll reach the Town Hall at level 16 and the Blacksmith will be unlocked. From this point on, you’ll be able to use Crystal Keys.

What are the Crystal Keys in Rise of Kingdoms
Apart from the minor and temporary keys that appear in events, there are a total of three main keys in Rise of Kingdoms: Silver Key, Golden Key, and Crystal Key. With three of these keys, you can open the Silver Chest, the Golden Chest, and the Equipment Chest. Since today we’re talking about the third key, let’s not waste time and get started.
Crystal Keys will help you open Equipment Chest that you can use in the mid and late game. In this chest you’ll find the blueprints for the items your commanders can wear and the necessary materials. However, to open this chest and use the keys, you need to upgrade your Town Hall to level 16. That means you need to be active in the game about a month if you don’t spending any money.
As in all games with this mechanic, the drop probability of the items in the chest varies. You’ll find many normal items, while items with a higher value drop less often. Here are the drop chances of the items in Equipment Chest in Rise of Kingdoms:
Reward | Probability |
Equipment Materials | 34.5% |
Normal Blueprint Fragments | 22% |
Advanced Blueprint Fragments | 15.4% |
Elite Blueprint Fragments | 7% |
Epic Blueprint Fragments | 6.3% |
Legendary Blueprint Fragments | 0.7% |
Normal Blueprints | 11.8% |
Advanced Blueprints | 1.8% |
Elite Blueprints | 0.5% |
You won’t find these keys in the first parts of the game. Equipment Chests, located in the Tavern, won’t appear until level 16, but if you make it to that level through hard work, it’s time to strengthen your commanders even more.

How to Use Crystal Keys in Rise of Kingdoms
Don’t worry if you’ve accumulated Crystal Keys, you can easily use them by going to the Tavern after reaching level 16. Open Equipment Chests with these keys, just like you open Silver and Golden Chests. The rewards you get from them will help you craft the items we’re about to explain.
If you don’t have Crystal Keys or you’ve used them all, there are three ways to get more:
- Complete daily tasks and earn it as rewards.
- Open Supply Boxes that you can earn in events.
- Buy from the Shop by spending Gems. (We do not recommend, you have to spend more than it’s worth.)
You don’t need to be too impatient with Crystal Keys. Although they’re an important part of the game, they aren’t among the most important mechanics. So don’t spend too much time and money on getting and opening equipment chests.
What do the materials and blueprints you get with these keys do? From level 16 you can build the Blacksmith building. If you’ve enough materials here, you can craft items that give your commanders additional powers. These additional powers are usually not so significant that they change the fate of major battles, but you can expect all commanders playing for victory to have the best items. If you’re one of them, we wish you good luck with Blacksmith and Crystal Keys.
